Clinical Evidence Committee

Leanne

LKM_picLeanne is an Occupational Therapist with nine years post qualification experience. She has specialised in Hand Therapy for six years.

She currently works at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital covering elective and trauma orthopaedics and plastic surgery. Leanne’s interest in research began during a part time Research Associate post to Dr. Christina Jerosch Herold at the University of East Anglia, working on an observational study looking at sensory and motor impairment post carpal tunnel decompression as well as embarking on a randomised controlled trial looking at sensory re-learning after carpal tunnel surgery. She has completed a Masters in Clinical Research and has recently been co-author and primary author on research publications.

In her spare time Leanne is a keen trekker and has completed Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp!

Nicky Bassett-Burr

NBB_picAn Occupational Therapist, with sixteen years post-registration experience, a strong commitment to Continued Professional Development, Reflective Practice and Clinical Evidence Based Practice has enabled Nicky to utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills to assess, diagnose and treat a complex clinical caseload, specialising in the field of Hand Therapy

Recently setting up “Wessex Hand Therapy” as an Independent Practitioner, Nicky’s previous professional experience includes working at Guy’s & ST. Thomas’s Hospitals and more recently at St. Richards’ Hospital, Chichester as an Advanced Occupational Therapist Hand Specialist Team Lead.

Nicky is proud to have been instrumental in the development of a now highly regarded service.

Although a relatively small unit, St. Richard’s Hand Therapy service is extremely busy – treating orthopaedic, plastic surgery, neurology, rheumatology and G.P referrals.

While in post Nicky’s roles also included Student Co-Coordinator, Fieldwork Educator, Visiting Tutor for Brighton University, delivering regular multi disciplined training sessions and participation in National Research.

Lisa Newington

Lisa graduated in 2006 with an MSc in Physiotherapy and has been working as a hand therapist since 2008.  Lisa has worked in both the NHS and private settings, most recently at the London Hand and Wrist Unit, where she enjoys treating patients with a range of upper limb injuries and acquired conditions.

In 2012 Lisa was awarded an Allied Health Professional Research Training Fellowship and is currently based at the Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London Biomedical Research Centre, where she is responsible for a project exploring participation in clinical research.

Lisa was co-opted to the Clinical Evidence committee in 2013 and is looking forward to working with BAHT to promote hand therapy research.
