AO Hand and Wrist Fixation Course for Operating Room Personnel,

Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists

10th and 11th October 2010

                                                      Weetwood Hall, Leeds

Course Objectives

This course covers principles of hand and wrist fracture fixation. The course is structured with lectures, discussion groups and practical workshop sessions and is designed for all levels of ORP and therapists with an interest in hand and wrist surgery. Participants will be encouraged to discuss and exchange ideas based on their own experiences to maximise personal learning.

At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:

    • Understand the basic principles of internal fixation of hand and wrist fractures
    • Understand the different methods of fixation in different fracture situations
    • Utilise the experience gained to facilitate surgery for internal fixation
    • Utilise the experience gained to facilitate rehabilitation following internal fixation

    • Lectures and presentations by a national faculty of surgeons, therapists & ORP
    • Hands-on laboratory practicals on hand and wrist bone models
    • Discussion groups incorporating case studies including surgery and rehabilitation
    • Audience Response System (ARS) for participant feedback and evaluation
