Previous meeting:
The Group last met on 1 st December in Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The session introduced Leech Therapy and a memorable and interesting presentation was given by Carl Peters Bowen from Biopharm. Carl works for this international company, which happens to be based in South Wales but supplies hospitals and practitioners worldwide. His presentation gave a fascinating insight into the history and modern uses for leeches within the health service and some therapists were brave enough to handle some of his leeches during the meeting! This was followed by a case study presented by Physiotherapist Iona Davies, and demonstrated the use of leeches with a thumb replant patient. The meeting was kindly sponsored by Promedics and the next meeting is due to be held at the Royal Gwent Hospital, details to be confirmed in the new year. |
