Strategic PlanBAHT offers its members the opportunity to apply for a research grants to encourage the development and generation of knowledge in the field of hand therapy. This can fund one larger project or a number of smaller ones depending on the quality of applications. The research grant is designed to help develop research capacity in hand therapists and is one of the many ways in which BAHT aims to meet its charitable aims, as set out in the Strategic Plan This money can be used to fund time, equipment for the project or other resources needed, however it cannot be used to fund university fees or attendance at conferences or courses (Please refer to BAHT Educational bursaries for this). The Research Grant Review Committee (RGRC) will consider any topic relevant to hand therapy, however applicants may find it helpful to read the following article to give you some ideas for possible research projects that have been identified as priorities by BAHT regional groups in 2008: Fournier K. Research priorities in Hand Therapy: Report of the 2008 UK Membership survey. British Journal of Hand Therapy 2008; Winter: 13: 4. 111-113. At present there is one call per year for research grant applicants. The research grant application is a two tier process where an initial proposal is submitted to the research grant review committee by 18th May 2012. If accepted, a complete application is requested via the full application form by 23rd September 2012. The RGRC consists of therapists with many years experience in clinical work, post-graduate education and research who review the applications and judge them on the value of the idea, feasibility of the project and supervision available to the candidate. All applicants whether successful or not receive feedback from the committee to assist in strengthening the proposal. Please ensure you read the guidance notes (be aware there are separate guidance notes for outline and full applications) and additional information to ensure your application is completed thoroughly including all relevant details.
