This Pump Priming Grant supports early-stage research activity designed to develop an idea and strengthen a future application to the BAHT 2027 Research Grant. Applicants must be full BAHT members for at least one year prior to the closing date. Receipt of a Pump Priming Grant does not confer any advantage in the assessment of future BAHT Research Grant applications, which are reviewed independently. Successful applicants must begin the funded activity within 6 months.
1. Purpose and Scope of Scheme
1.1 The primary aim of BAHT Pump Priming Grant is to support the development of research capacity and knowledge generation in hand therapy. The scheme is intended to support early-stage development activities only and does not provide preferential access to, or influence over, future BAHT research grant funding decisions.
2. Criteria for Application
2.1 The applicant must be a full member of BAHT, registered for at least one year before applying for funding. Associate BAHT members are not eligible
2.2 funding will not be provided for attendance of conference
2.3. The applicant must have an idea for a project to undertake which will require BAHT grant application for 2027-2028
3. Application process, terms and conditions:
3.1 This is a one-off application for £2000
3.2 Application needs to be completed and uploaded via the bursary portal by 31st May, 11.59 pm
3.3 You will receive an email acknowledgement on receipt of your application
3.4 You will be informed of successful application by 30th st June 2026.
3.5 If applying to cover the costs of a masters module it must be completed within 18 months of being awarded the grant.
3.6 The amount awarded to successful applicants is the final amount, any additional costs arising from the research activity will not be covered by BAHT
3.7 It is expected that this grant will support the development of a future application to the BAHT research grant (2027–2028). However, receipt of a Pump Priming Grant does not confer any advantage in the assessment process, and all full research grant applications are reviewed independently on their own merit.
