BAHT are pleased to announce that the 2023 annual conference will be held on the sunny south coast in Bournemouth! This year we are back to being fully face to face. This will allow us to maximise on the networking and workshop practical opportunities that we have missed in recent years!

We are focusing on the multifactorial theme of sustainability. We plan to acknowledge the responsibility that we all have in making our practice, and ourselves, fit for the future - this is in 'In Our Hands'.

We are pleased to announce Margareta (Maggi) Persson as this years keynote speaker. Maggi is an experienced occupational and hand therapist, who started her career at the Malmö University Hospital, Burns Unit 1983 in Sweden. In 1985 she began to specialize in the treatment of hand injuries while working for the Hand Surgery clinic at Uppsala University Hospital. Since 1993, Maggi has combined part-time work at the Hand Surgery clinic  with teaching hand therapy and splinting, and consulting at pediatric rehabilitation centers, and at other hand surgery clinics.

Maggi was the president of the Swedish Hand Therapy society for 10 years. She was active in the International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy executive committee for 12 years and was president of IFSHT from 2004-2007.

Maggi is a popular speaker and teacher, she is a frequently invited speaker at international hand congresses and has given courses in more than 40 countries around the world from Alaska to New Zealand, from Brazil to China.  She was one of the first to receive the IFSHT Lifetime Achievement Award 2019.

Following on from previous years, the programme will feature a mix of plenary lectures, symposia and workshop sessions including:

  • Sustainable Futures
  • Ulna sided wrist injury
  • Advances in nerve injury management

Workshops to include practical clinical assessment, splinting opportunities, wound care and health and wellbeing topics

We also look forward to welcoming back Grainne Bourke, BAHT President, to present an update on the developments of hand transplants!

A social conference dinner/networking opportunity is included in all 2-day conference tickets; the dinner will take place on Friday 6th October at The Hilton Level8ight Sky Bar. A set menu will be served with vegetarian/vegan choices available. 1 day ticket holders may purchase dinner tickets if desired and are very welcome to attend.
